Summary of SP Drama “Akutou”

I translated the summary at the Fuji TV site. It doesn’t give away the story completely, but it has a lot of details about the characters and the plot, so DO NOT read if you don’t want spoilers. For those of you who don’t mind reading possible spoilers, please forgive me if you see any mistakes!

*** spoilers ***

Saeki Shuichi is a private detective at Hope Detective Agency.

One day, he is commissioned by a client to do an investigation on a man named Sakagami Youichi (played by Kaname Jun), who had just been released from a reformatory. His client, a couple whose son was murdered by Sakagami eleven years ago, wanted to find out what Sakagami was doing with his life now. They wanted to see whether or not he deserved to be forgiven.

Due to the financial difficulties at the Hope Agency, Saeki was ordered by Chief Kogure (Watari Tetsuya) and Sometani-san of General Affairs (Toda Keiko) to take on the case. But for Saeki himself, he agreed to accept this case because he could relate to the pain of losing a loved one.

Fifteen years ago when Saeki was in his second year of primary school, Saeki’s older sister, Yukari, was raped and murdered. It was his birthday and his sister went out to buy a cake for him when she was attacked on her way home. He thought back to the image of his sister, with her uniform torn apart, lying completely motionless inside the dark abandoned house. Although fifteen years have passed, his deep hatred towards her attackers (and criminals in general) has not faded in the slightest and it has been the same for his father (played by Oosugi Ren).

Before Saeki worked for the Hope Agency, he was a police officer at the Tokorozawa Police Station. But he was dismissed from his job for disciplinary reasons after he lost his temper during an interrogation and shoved a gun in the mouth of a rapist, who showed no signs of regret or remorse for the crime(s) that he did.

After going through his investigation results, “I would not forgive him if I were you”
is what Saeki told the couple. But a week later, another tragedy happened…. the couple committed suicide.

After that, Saeki received another investigation request, but this time, his client was a young man whose 1-year-old brother died when they were abandoned by their mother. He was only 3-years-old at the time when his mother locked them in a room and all he could do was stare at his younger brother’s dead body and nibble on raw rice and magazines pages to stay alive…. It’s difficult for victims when they see that the bad guys are living a happy life, even after doing what they’ve done.

During all of this, Saeki finds the man whom he has been pursuing this entire time. Tadokoro Kenji, the manager at a ramen shop, was one of the men who killed his sister. It’s a name that he would never be able to forget even if he wanted to. Saeki went to Tadokoro’s friend’s cabaret club to find out more about Tadokoro’s life and that is where he met a hostess named Haruka.

One day, Haruka prepared a surprise for Saeki : a birthday present and a birthday cake with candles. But ever since the incident with his sister, Saeki had forgotten about his birthday… After all, his birthday was the anniversary of his sister’s death. But he knew that it only came from Haruka’s pure and honest feelings towards him. “Thank you,” Saeki muttered, in spite of himself. Then Haruka said, “Shu-chan, don’t isolate yourself. I’ll always be by your side…”

The next day, the body of Terada was found on a dried riverbed. He had been stabbed to death. Terada was one of the three men who had attacked Saeki’s sister. They later found out that Terada had threatened Tadokoro with information about the incident that happened 16 years ago. So soon after that, Tadokoro was arrested. Now, two of the people who had degraded his sister have gone to hell.

But that day, when Saeki was still in a dazed state over what had just happened, Haruka moved out of her apartment and disappeared…

Later, Saeki told Chief Kogure that he had decided to quit. But Chief Kogure personally ordered Saeki to do one last investigation for him. The subject of investigation was Enoki Kazuya, the main culprit in his sister’s murder case.

“I want to kill this man’s soul. I will be the villain (this time),” Saeki said to himself…

The story sounds very interesting ne! But I have no idea how they’re going to fit all of it into a two hour drama (with commercials)?? They should just make it into a series drama, with Detroit as the themesong or something! XD Wouldn’t that be nice? But I think we’re so thrilled to see Takki in a drama, we’ll take whatever we can get~ Maybe if it gets good enough ratings, he’ll star in another drama next year!

I think I’m most looking forward to the “gun in the mouth” scene. I can’t really picture it in my head… but I just like it when Takki acts “pissed off” because it’s a side of him we don’t often get to see and he looks really kakkoii when he’s mad!! (or maybe I’m a little ドS and I’m the only one excited for that scene? LOL)

Filming must’ve started already… I wonder what color his hair will be? I personally hope that he can keep it blonde because we haven’t seen a blonde Takki in a drama since Boku Dake no Madonna!!

  1. Thanks for sharing. It does sound rather complex for the short span of an SP. Fingers crossed too for super ratings and drama next year!
