[Review] Yukinojo Henge DVD

I got my Yukichan DVD when I was in Japan! Yukinojo Henge is one DVD that’s so worth the $$! What I got was a very professional and high quality package, and quality extras too. My $$ was definitely well-spent! ^^

The outer box surface is kirakira, I don’t know how to describe it, it is silverish blue, and kinda shiny yet it’s not really glossy or matt lol. I slit the plastic wrap at the side so that the box remains well-protected, and removed the main compartment (sorry, I don’t know what to call this – disc holder? cardboard? 3-fold pane? lol~ my poor engrish is getting worse….) from the box. A brown booklet (below pic – in the middle) is slotted into a pocket on the left, while the other side is a pretty pic of Yukichan in Sagi Musume (below pic – on the right). I’m sorry the pics are taken with my handphone camera, so they aren’t very clear.

I flipped the main compartment backwards and this is what I got – a beautiful scene from Sagi Musume :) The quality of this is pretty and matt.

The booklet is really pretty, made of VERY THICK paper! Very simple design but I like it~ and the inner pages are all colored and made of thick paper too. The booklet starts with Yukinojo, and ends with Yamitaro.

Now onto the content…

Disc 1 (Yukichan’s face printed on the disc) is the drama itself. The subtitles are: Japanese/OFF.
Disc 2 (Yamikun’s face printed on the disc) is the Specials. The Making Of is 35mins long, and focusses on Tono! There was an offshot where Tono just couldn’t stop laughing hahahaha… That was so cute! And they showed how they combined Yukichan and Yamikun into one scene.

Tono looks really good in the interview! It’s the same one used for the promos, but yea, I really like that image. I felt myself staring at his face – his puppy eyes and curvy lips – while he was talking…. and suddenly I felt like I was hypnotised bwahahahaha…

Yamitaro’s last scene. The director told Yamikun to rehearse Yukichan’s lines :) Yamikun looks sexy in that light blue yukata ne, even the cameraman was “H” hehehe~~ Oh, a staff molested his butt when he got on the horse LOL! And just when I least expected it, Yamikun pulls up his yukata when he walks!! OMG!! TAKKI SEXY THIGHS!!!!!! *NOSEBLEEDS* ^^

The MAKEUP SCENE! I kept watching it over and over and over again… I can never get enough of his white face and hadaka body hehehe…. The entire process seemed arduous. My mom laughed when they showed the staff painting his hairy legs~

And when they finally put on the wig for him, Tono suddenly becomes a girl~ kawaii when he *blinks* *blinks* his eyes lol. And to think that such a long process of transformation to Onnagata was done only within a few minutes in Takizawa Enbujo’08, really sugoi ne!!! Sorry I’m straying off topic. But Yukichan is really deeply connected to Enbujo’08 ne… I like Yukichan more after watching Enbujo’08 :)

Kabuki scenes – Tono practicing the dance for Sagi Musume! His killer smile~~

Then the actual filming of that scene on the stage. The close up shows his eyes and expressions so well. Even when he walks back to the dressing room in that costume, he walks like an onna~ very gentle! I remember my first impression of Sagi Musume was “OMG~ ghost!!!”, but now it’s like “OMG~ so beautiful!!!” I don’t know why too, but that was how drastically my view on kabuki changed.

Then, finally, the fighting scene. How does he manage to fight wearing that kind of skirt! Lol, can’t even take big steps ne~ It’s like us wearing tight skirts all the way down to the ankles. Oh, and the actor (baddie) he was fighting with went to watch Enbujo’08 too hehe. I always call him the Tomato man (from Boku dake no Madonna) lol. And Tono played with a female staff, actually he poked a stick at her only, but… lucky girl!

They had shorter interviews with some of the cast too, like Erika Toda, and also one on the director. All of them were asked about their views on Takki. So there were also many offshots of Takki in the other casts’ interviews. During Erika Toda’s, they showed Takki making the “dog” shadow (that he does in Enbujo’07 & ’08), and Erika trying to learn how to do it as well :)

Apart from the Making Of and interviews, there’s also the Premap clip that was shown before the drama aired, kinda as a promotional VTR. Thank you, NHK, for producing such a great package for us to collect!! Avex should try learning from them, give us better paper quality and booklets with good pictures ne *hint* This is off topic, but I like the song that’s used in this Premap and in the DVD menu :D
