Here’s a translation of Part 3 of the Takisama Concert’09 Pamphlet.

INTERVIEW 03
From the debut through now

We had turned 20 when we debuted as Takki & Tsubasa and since that time, we’ve had our own TV shows and we’ve done concerts. I was allowed to do those jobs under very blessed circumstances, so I didn’t feel the uneasiness and pressure that was expected from our debut. I think it wasn’t that we “didn’t know what was going on” but more like we were “watching our surroundings as we progressed in an unexpectedly calm way.” (laughs) From that point on, we were allowed to do various kinds of jobs and of course, we definitely gained some really wonderful experiences from them all. But if I had to chose a personally and particularly significant (experience), it would definitely have to be “Yoshitsune.” Because of this drama, many people have become fans of mine, I was able to meet a lot of wonderful actors and staff, I became exposed to the charms of Japanese (culture), and above all else, it gave birth to the stage play, Takizawa Enbujou. And later, there were also many jobs that were connected (to Yoshitsune). I think that even from now on, “Yoshitsune” will continue to be important to me.

The part of me that I think has changed since our debut until now? I don’t think my essential nature has really changed. Since I was little, I’ve been the type who would pursue something that I like until the very end… But as I continue to complete various jobs, I’ve become aware of the fact that I shouldn’t pursue the things that I want to do, just because I want to do them. Image-wise, there is the original me, Takizawa Hideaki. But in addition to that, it’s like I’m also wearing another layer, another Takizawa Hideaki who borrows power from his professional staff. But it doesn’t mean that I’m being deceitful (or fake). It’s really important to accept the work of those around me and to know my limits as someone who’s representing the whole team. But of course, we’re only able to do this because there is a relationship of mutual trust between the staff and I.

This coming September, it will be our 7th anniversary, but if you ask me what kind of personal changes will occur from now on… there’s really no telling what will happen. Because we are simply just the players and instead of saying “I want to do this kind of thing,” what’s most important is how we handle the jobs that we’re given and to make it our own. Even if we’re doing the same thing, depending on the level that we’re at, what we choose to show to the audience can be completely different.

For example, “Takizawa Enbujou” is exactly like that, right? It is a performance that I’ve done numerous times before, but we always intend to present the audience with something different every time. And from now on, we have to continue to show a new side of Enbujou. Everyday, it felt like a new challenge was born every time we finished a show and because there was always a challenge, I felt like I needed to continue to work hard. In the end, I’ll have no choice but to evolve little by little (from working) in that kind of cycle.
