My thoughts: Drama SP “Kokuchisezu”

Fortunately, the connection was working well last night, there were only 2 small parts which I missed. I won’t be writing the full storyline since my listening is poor. But there are lotsa screencaps and what I understood about certain scenes if you read on… So, this is a SPOILER WARNING! ^^

I love all the Guam scenes, and all the scenes of Ryo and his mama! They’re happy and cute!! Ryo mama is really genki~ and I think Takahata-san is the perfect actress to play the part. She was really good thruout the drama, and so was Takki. They both had many expressions which are either heartwrenching or funny/cute haha~ I prefer seeing Ryo’s casual side, at home with his parents, or in Guam with his mother, rather than in the hospital in that white nurse outfit (coz he looks sad most of the time t__t;). I love him wearing that red tracksuit, that white loose top with jeans, that red sleeveless top with berms, and even that Hawaiian flowery shirt hehe.

Of course sometimes he looks good in that white nurse outfit too. And I especially like the scene where he finally got the old man (the patient he’s in charge of) to let him do the injection for him. That was cute~ and his expression before that was so serious :) These scenes remind me of my brother’s experience when he was a houseman some years ago. They get ‘bullied’ by the experienced nurses lol. There was a scene where all the doctors wore black too, after which he and his dad went to visit the sushi place (his dad’s ex-patient’s family).

When Ryo brought his mama to Guam, he spoke English to the guy, asking where he can have dinner, and at which restaurant. “In this hotel?” He then turned to his mom and did he say “Mother, come on!”? LOL Then after they entered the hotel suite, his mom smacked his butt hehehe~ Then he went into the toilet to change, and~~ THAT WAS SO KAWAII coz the other side of the door wasn’t closed! HAHA! This is one of my favourite scenes! The initial scene at the Fort where Ryo did the “hand wave” thingie~ and the ice-cream scene were also cute!!

At the Two Lover’s Point, Ryo’s short little “bimyo” was cute haha, and of course, the scene at the beach… Takki looks CHOU KAKKOII!! When his mom said she was tired, he held her arms and pulled her upshore. And when he bought the drinks, he said “thank you” to the girl at the counter, then after a while, turned back and said “bye” lol… When he came back and saw his mom squatting down and singing, that look… And finally when he sat down beside his mom, and asked her… How does his dad really feel about him becoming a doctor, recalling his dad’s speech about what makes a good doctor (those words are from his mom…)… That side profile, that frown, that face… Awww~ *DIES* I love these scenes so much! I was just staring at his face all the while when he was talking…

As cruel as it seems, I also like the slapping scene. Ryo’s expression when shouting at his father, and his reaction to the mom’s slap too. Even after he ran off into his room, Ryo’s mom was crying.

Slappng scene in Kokuchisezu

I’ve seen too many spoilers, and understand only about 90%~ but I still cried… Not as much as I did for “Kimi ga kureta Natsu”, but this story touches more on the family bond, rather than the fight to stay alive in “Kimi ga”. There’s a lot of message in the drama. I’m going to watch it for the third time, and try to understand it more fully…

The 2nd most touching scene for me was at in hospital room in Guam Memorial Hospital, where Ryo mama called her husband “Hasegawa-sensei”, and told him that she wishes for him to tell her to ganbatte to the end, to become genki~ as a doctor. That was very touching ne, she knew she was ill, and she knew that her husband (and by then, her son) knew that she was ill, but she didn’t let them say it to her too. Tears welled up in my eyes immediately~

And right before that scene, where Ryo questioned his dad on why he has kept quiet about the illness… He flared up at first, but accepted and understood when his dad said that he has lived with his mom for 30 years, he just couldn’t say it… Ryo then retreated and sat on the bench, asking how long more she has to live. 3 months is too short yo!! *sobs* When Ryo heard that from his father, he wept… My favourite is still that “fuzaken da yo” part… That expression was so hardbreaking!! And right after that, his dad embraced him while Ryo just wept in his father’s arms… And although Ryo said that if his father don’t tell the truth, he will… In the end, when he entered the room and faced his mom, he still couldn’t bring himself to say it…

And the scene which made Takki cry every time he watched, was the one where Ryo mama & papa were talking in the hospital room. Ryo mama asked her husband to hug her, just like before. It was very touching ne. And Ryo was outside the hospital room listening to the conversation with tears in his eyes. Sigh… my family chose this time to come home, and I opened the door so was away from my computer for a while… It was a really well-done scene, that I had to capture the hug.

Ryo mama’s death scene… There’s one scene I saw in the preview which wasn’t in the final cut ne – Ryo crying after she died. In the final cut, they only showed Ryo kneeling down from the top view but didn’t show his face… She told Ryo to become a good doctor. Ryo kept crying for her *sobs*.

But the ichiban most touching scene to me was the VERY LAST SCENE. OMG~ I love that scene!! It’s so well-done… Even when I watched it for the 2nd time, to take the screencaps, I couldn’t stop my tears from flowing. Ryo mama’s voice, her singing, the words on the card, the flashbacks, the music… Ryo papa’s tears… and RYO’S EYES!!!!! HIS EYES ARE SO BEAUTIFUL YET SO SAD AT THE SAME TIME…

Last scene in Kokuchisezu

And I love Takki’s voiceover throughout the drama. I’ve always loved his voiceovers (like in Kimi ga kureta natsu, Taiyou no Kisetsu, Antique, SOS, Boku dake no Madonna, etc…). And the song that Ryo’s papa, mama and even Ryo himself sang in the drama is nice and meaningful ne… Listen out for the lyrics… Ryo also sang it to his mom in the hospital ward… And to have Takki’s voiceover to end the drama is so nice…The sun of the Hasegawa family, Mom’s smile… He finally understood why his dad did not tell his mom the truth.

    I love takki in a black suit…looks so handsome….

Takki had really matured as an actor and had really become better as years go by.

I just wish he’s gonna make a regular TV drama soon.

  5. Thank you so much, Mich, for your drama-reactions to this. Even though I didn’t watch it live on streaming Japanese TV online, I do hope someone will be upldg this dorama soon for d/l. (and hopefully w/Engl. subs too preferably…hehe) (gomen, I’m anxious lol) Thanks for your screenies to this. (at least I can more-or-less see what it’s sort-of about w/these)

Speaking of clips, on newshfan’s LJ she has the MS vid clip of Takki singing/dancing to ‘Ai Kakumei’ with Engl. subs but for some reason, I’m unable to d/l it off the MF link she has. (just a heads up) So,just to let ppl know the MF link isn’t working. As for the MU link, it works.

  6. あの空気が読めない人が帰ってきましたね

    いやぁ…すごい迷惑ですね v_v
